Downstairs Gallery: The Politics of Art
Opening Reception Friday, January 13, 6:30–7:30pm (prior to the 8pm show)
Chikle’s work began as a response to a society and system that censors anti-war and anti-establishment propaganda. His socio-political messages exhibit humor and diversity, either unnerving or challenging the viewer to see beyond the myths we are living today. www.elchikle.com
Drawing on his experience on the California street art and graffiti scene, enomeks has been using photography as his most recent medium. Depicting scenes in miniature, this artist tells a story of a bigger picture.
Sandra Wascher’s sculptures examine politics, social issues, linguistics, science and technology. Wascher currently lives in San Diego, where she is a visual artist and an adjunct professor and lecturer of visual arts at CSU San Marcos, Mesa College, Grossmont College and Southwestern College.
Ron Wharton is a self-taught artist who pokes fun and prods at anything that moves, often glorifying America’s sacred ironies. Wharton, a.k.a. “The Art Pimp,” has been involved in art shows in the San Diego area and around the country. rwharton.illequipped.com

Upstairs Gallery: Art from Baja to El Barrio
David Silvah has become a world class artist on both sides of the border. His art has been shown in galleries, hotels and the homes of fine art collectors. “I am the idealist who dreams of changing the world one t-shirt at a time…” Chikle started out as a silkscreen t-shirt maker and has morphed into a leader in the exploding Barrio art scene. In the few years that Selina Lugo has been painting, her art and style has become recognized as a force in the local art movement showing in local galleries and art spaces and in her native Sacramento. A tattoo artist by trade, Chuy Espinoza sees the hidden (not really) images that haunt kids after they fall to sleep. Chuy’s art is a cross between Walt Disney and Hannibal Lecter and will make you crack up and cringe. Eric Serra is a photographer who can go from wedding to fashion and fine art photography. He has mastered the art of the lens and knows how to bring his vision to life.
