In 1973, energetic Glenna Hazleton decided to found another series, this time in the downtown San Diego area. Since then, fifteen free Mini-Concerts have been presented at the Lyceum each year. Until the fall of 2004, the downtown series was governed by the organization known as San Diego Mini-Concerts. Since then the Athenaeum has taken on the series.
These concerts are made possible in part, thanks to funding from the City of San Diego through a program managed by the Commission for Arts and Culture and the County of San Diego. This Program is funded in part by Horton Plaza Theatre Foundation, an organization funded by the City of San Diego Special Promotion Programs.
